The Piece Hall has now turned full circle in relation to its commercial
origins. Constructed in 1779, to house individual sellers of cloth pieces;
(hence the name Piece Hall).
Today commercial activities are more diverse, offering for sale a miscellany
of goods through its collonade shops and the open market (held every Thursday,
Friday and Saturday). |

This unique building now not only
accommodates a market and many Olde Worlde Shops but also houses an Industrial
Museum, Art Gallery, Restaurant and Tourist Information Centre. A 120 stall open market is
operated in a truly magnificent setting of the central cobbled courtyard of
this renowned ancient monument. |

Thursday is second-hand day where you may find almost everything from
clothing to cookers, bric-a-brac to books. On Friday and Saturday the
market is given over to general retail items including clothing, jewellery,
pottery, foodstuffs, bedding, footwear, materials, fancy goods and a whole lot
more. |

The famous festive Sunday Market
events operate each year with over 100 stalls, Santa's Grotto and free
family entertainment, and run from mid November through Christmas |
